I plugged back into 101, today, and drove South through California. This stretch is where the redwoods are. (It's also where the elk are, but I'm growing weary of that particular critter. They're like the alligators of Florida, insomuch as they're everywhere.) The redwood are spread throughout a number of State Parks as well as Redwood National Park, which I visited. I undertook a short hike to study the giants up close. What can I say? Redwoods are big--really, really big.

Driving South and then leaving 101 to find a place to hole up for the night, I somehow found myself in the Napa Valley. Here you can see grape vines--a whole lot of grape vines.
