tl;dr: It's Day 2 of Memorial Day weekend on the Tennessee River. There ain't no party like a pontoon boat party.

Folks here sure like pontoon boats. There wasn't the variety of boats I saw last weekend, but I think the count may actually have gone up. Pontoon boats mostly, with a good number of speed boats. The slight breeze should have left the water smooth. But it was a choppy mess. Water that should have been clear down to two feet was nothing but murky orange mud.

The pontoon boats would swarm, and then they'd congregate on stretches of remote beach. I enjoyed paddling along these beaches with all of the comments that came with that. "It's a canoe!" is still ahead of "It's a kayak!" by at least two to one.

Starting around southern Illinois the locals' accent started to veer from what I'm used to. Here in central Tennessee I am totally missing about half of what people say. I feel bad about that.

Now that I'm almost on an actual river, one side or the other is almost always a cliff face. Very picturesque.

It was hot today, but there was a breeze, so it wasn't too bad. In anticipating it being hot all night, I was fortunate enough to find an unused (and unmaintained) picnic shelter. I set up my mat on one of the tables. I hope there isn't a problem with bugs. The antlions should help with that.

There is a problem with bugs. Back into the tent I go.
