Last Dam

tl;dr: Finally portaged my last dam. More alligators. No beavers. Plenty of vultures.

I portaged around my last dam. It was a long drag through the woods. Fortunately, the banana spiders aren't too big yet.

Oh look, another alligator. And, oddly enough, no more beavers. I haven't seen a sign of beavers in days.

I saw there was a cafe in Coffeeville, so I cached my kayak on a rocky thorny slope and walked into town. The cafe wasn't just closed, it was completely gone. Thank you, Google Maps. I ate at the gas station next door. The local grocery store was open. I stocked up.

I needed to handle some work today. I set up office in a shaded area downriver from Coffeeville. This killed a few more hours.

As I move south the types of birds along the river change. I haven't seen a goose in days, and rarely a duck. I do see herons, still. But one type of bird has been my constant companion: vultures. Vultures love some dead fish.

All in all I didn't make it very far today. Probably only twenty miles. But I was still thirsty. I'm pretty sure I'm not drinking enough water. Gah, it's so humid down here you'd think I could hydrate via osmosis.

good morning alligator...and ghost
