2011-02-08 tl;dr: A short bicycle ride saw me in Arizona, Nevada, back to Arizona and into California. I must admit that I spent weeks planning my next bicycle trip. I mapped out points of interest and likely routes through a large number of states. I purchased new gear. I studied seasonal weather to find the best time to leave. Don’t think I fail to plan ahead.Of course I then abandoned that plan and hit the road on a whim. See that little bicycle in the pictures? All of that fit in the box you can see in my previous post. My last two bicycle trips ended due to conflicts between work and fun. With a bicycle that is more packable, I may be able to avoid that fate this time. Given that I haven't been on a bicycle in months, and I've never ridden this bicycle in particular, I decided a short trip might be wise before tackling 140 miles of empty desert. So I made my way from Bullhead City to Needles, California following an indirect 32-mile route that brought me from Arizona into Nevada and back into Arizona and finally into California. Every time I crossed a state line I also crossed the Colorado River. The Colorado River is much cleaner than I expected. |
