2015-09-19 tl;dr: I visited Storm Lake and then headed south toward the Loess Hills. I ate the best breakfast pizza ever at a gas station in the small town of Newell, Iowa.I visited Storm Lake mostly just to see their lighthouse that isn't anywhere near the actual lake. One of the locals in Newell suggested I visit the Loess Hills which is a bit south from here, so from Storm Lake I began angling that way, avoiding busy roads wherever possible. Sometime around 3 PM I popped out onto Highway 31 in Washta (the "coldest spot in Iowa") and thought to myself, holy cow it's already 3 PM. Where did the day go? I ate a sandwich at Casey's in Correctionville and spent the rest of the day attempting to find a good place to camp. I thought it would be easy due to the hills and trees I was encountering, but I was wrong. I ended up setting up my tent at a river access point just off the highway. So, nothing exciting happened today. |
