2015-11-16 tl;dr: I'm across the peninsula and biking along the Gulf of Mexico. I visited the Mercado Principal, which is sort of an open market. It was busy and chaotic. But at no point was my view blocked by the locals. Most of my motivation for staying in Campeche until Monday was that I needed to send out a package via FedEx. It turns out Monday is Revolution Day, a national holiday, and FedEx is closed. At least I was able to dry out my clothes and buy some new sunglasses. I'm not waiting around until manana, though. Today's route brings me along the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the day was spent on not fun roads due to being narrow and busy with traffic, but eventually the highway sprouted a wide shoulder. I'm really looking forward to sleeping next to the ocean. There are a number of empty beach houses along this stretch, so I simply set my tent up on the back deck of one. I didn't want to set up my tent, but mosquitoes! Somehow it seems I lost all of my cereal bars. I keep them I their own bag. Apparently I unpacked them while eating lunch and left them on the ground someplace. |
