Edgemont

tl;dr: After listening to trains all night, I biked into Edgemont, South Dakota and hid from the rain in a motel.

Do you like trains? Do I have a camping spot for you! I managed to camp a couple miles north of where oncoming trains meet. Here a single track breaks into two tracks so trains can pass one another. Let me tell you something: trains do not pass silently in the night. And I'm pretty sure just counting the times I was dragged from sleep by the rumbling and horn blowing, I could see a couple-dozen different trains pass.

I biked through a couple of dilapidated towns to arrive at Edgemont. Other than Edgemont, every single town I've seen in South Dakota looks like something out of a bad post-apocalyptic movie. Houses are all run down or out-right destroyed. Cars are stacked one one another. There is garbage everywhere. The locals drive around in vehicles with mismatched paint and missing windows.

Edgemont actually had an open restaurant (although that wasn't obvious). Checking the weather while eating breakfast I saw that it was supposed to rain all day. I had skipped out on work yesterday, so I checked into Edgemont's single motel (the Cowboy Inn) for today and avoid more rain and cold.
