2015-09-24 tl;dr: I crossed into Nebraska over a very narrow bridge and then biked through the rain for another 60 miles. It rained for most of my stay in Onawa, Iowa. Some good and proper storms rolled through. At first I thought, it's a good thing I'm in a hotel. Then I realized, if I was able to just keep on biking, I'd be past most of these storms already. It is Fall. The nights are now longer than the days. I crossed into Nebraska over a very narrow bridge. Today was fifty miles of suck followed by twenty miles of suck slightly less. I had to follow Highway 50 because the dirt roads were mush. This highway is narrow, hilly, full of trucks, and it rained most of the way. The speed limit is 60 mph, so everybody is driving fast. When I hit Highway 275 I at least had a shoulder to myself, but it was still raining. So far I've seen a lot of cows in Nebraska. Dirty, smelly, cramped cows in too-small lots. I ended up sleeping in a park shelter in Norfolk (that's NorfoRk to you) because I was just so tired of being in the rain. |
