2015-10-15 tl;dr: There's Devils Tower! Then ranches. Then oil fields. Then a full motel. Then camping in the cold. It was a bit cold last night, so I waited until as late as possible (10 AM -- lame) to leave my motel. In general, it's getting colder. Time to start heading south I guess.Look, it's Devils Tower! Let me take a pile of pictures. I'll post one. You can see Devils Tower from about ten miles away, even with all the hills. Eventually I ended up on gravel roads, and I missed a turn to Keyhole State Park. I'm glad it isn't hot, because water would have become an issue. I guess I could beg water from a ranch. I crossed Interstate 90 into the oil fields of Wyoming. Google Maps said to take Pine Ridge Road. Apparently, this isn't recommended by the locals, as parts of it are deliberately bulldozed out to prevent vehicles from passing. Fortunately, I am not in a vehicle. The weather forecast calls for a low of 30 degrees tonight, so I decided to wimp out and get a motel room in Upton. Unfortunately, one motel was closed and the other was full. After filling all of my water bottles, because it is 71 miles to the next town, I peddled out of Upton into the Thunder Basin National Grasslands. I peddled until it was too dark and found a place to set up my tent. |
