2015-10-14 tl;dr: I biked from Spearfish through some more of the Black Hills to Hullett, Wyoming. Spearfish has a long bike path running through Spearfish Canyon that I followed for a bit. It was nice.I found a water bottle along the road that was a match to mine, but newer. I considered replacing mine, but ultimately just threw the newer one away. I am now in Wyoming Google maps has some interesting ideas about what constitutes a bikeable road. But it did cause me to bike through more of the Black Hills National Forest on roads that I had all to myself. I went a few miles out of my way because I didn't realize the closed gate with the "road closed - walk in only" sign was the route I was supposed to take. After getting on these roads I didn't see anybody but cows. I ended up pushing my bike up hill a lot. There are a lot of deer in this area. I saw dozens and dozens today. And turkeys, too. I needed to stop and get some work done. The two hotels in Hulett that published their rates on their website were kind of expensive, so I went to the Hotel Pioneer, which looked much cheaper. It wasn't. I'm still angry about that. It is by far the least quality hotel in town for basically the same price as the others. |
