2015-10-31 tl;dr: Interstate cycling isn't too fun, but I got to see the Colorado River. I am now in Grand Junction. I supposed I could have found some back roads to get around this section, but I wanted to see the Colorado River canyon. Unfortunately, that means biking on the shoulder of Interstate 70. That is allowed here. The shoulder started off at about ten feet wide, but the farther south I traveled the narrower it became. By the time I was able to exit the interstate the shoulder was down to about three feet and covered in gravel. Not fun.Everybody thinks I'm riding an "e-bike". I guess the bar does look like a battery pack and the hub a motor. But how insane would it be to try to charge up a touring bike? I arrived in Grand Junction in early afternoon. If somebody were to drop you in the middle of Grand Junction, Colorado without telling you where you were, you might think you were in some agriculture city in California. I was trying to decide between staying in Grand Junction all weekend or attempting to bike to Moab before Monday. I was leaning toward Moab when a support email came in for my job. Sigh. Well, at least I can get my bike inspected. There are only a dozen bicycle shops in this city. |
