People down here say "sir" a lot. "Yes, Sir." "No, sir." "Whatever, sir."

People down here don't say "soda". Today at a diner for lunch I held up my glass and asked the waitress if I could get another "hit of soda."

Waitress: (blank stare)
Me: ... "Coke."
Waitress: "Right away, sir."

In other news, it may be that I am guilty of promoting a "Spotlight Fallacy", but I swear that a disproportionately high number of my trips start on a full moon. I was reminded of this as I packed up camp this morning long before daylight without once using a flashlight until it was time to double-check everything. If true, what could this signify?

After the most convoluted bike route ever I found myself checking into a hotel in Newberry around noon. So I can hear you saying: "what a wimp!" Be that as it may, I have a good reason for stopping for today (and tomorrow). Some of you already know this, but it is my sincere hope to invoke jealousy in all when I say: it was time for work. That's right folks; this time I brought the job with me. I need to spend a few days every week hunched over a laptop in a hotel room. But the rest of the time I am free as a bird. Free as a bird that doesn't have to dip into savings, that is.

full moon in the morning
