2009-03-28

If I were going the opposite direction, I would not even have biked. As it was, being pushed along by 30+ mph winds greatly contributed to my first 100 mile day on a bicycle ever. I may have traveled farther, but I made frequent stops to fill up on water. It was hot and humid.

I left orange country pretty early this morning. I then found myself in levee country. I don't know their purpose, but there were large man-made reservoirs everywhere. And those transformer stations.

After the levees, I found actual hills around Dade City. Those seemed to be a geographic anomaly, because I am now on the Withlacoochee Trail (very nice) and it's mostly flat again. Of course, the trail follows a river.

Not sure if there was an event or not, but the roads were saturated with motorcycles.

Fire ant bites are worse the second day.

There are storms coming tonight. I noticed after setting up camp that my hammock is tied right at the high-water mark on the trees. Hope it doesn't rain too much.
